Legacy: In Tribute to the Egyptian Arabian Horse - Ramses Amal

The story of this mare is beautifully told on her page in the Legacy Section of Volume XII of the Reference Handbook of Straight Egyptian Horses, and it is a reminder of what can happen as a result of hard work, determination, and a touch of good fortune. Such was the case for Les & Lois St. Clair. They had an eye for true greatness in horse flesh and a vision of what the future might hold for them.

This was a mare that bred forward in wonderful ways, from the time she delivered her first foal right on down to the present time, and it wasn’t just her. The entire mare family descending through Fathia has had a far reaching influence down through the ages of time.

To better understand the power of this mare family we need to go back to the mare, Bint Samiha, easily recognized as the dam of Nazeer (x Mansour). In addition to Nazeer, she produced Samha, dam of Mamdouha (to Dan Gainey), Kamla (to Germany and dam of Hadban Enzahi & Bint Kamla) and Zahia; and then Shams (x Mashaan), dam of Maysouna (her daughters Hemmat and Berlanty (both by Sid Abouhom) and Ansata Bint Misuna (x Nazeer). Hemmat produced Neamat (x Morafic), who in turn produced Nihal (x Anter) and Nabda (x Wahag). Nabda, in turn, was the dam of Makhsous. Shams’ 2nd daughter to breed forward was the mare, Fathia (x Sid Abouhom), dam of Bint Fathia & Foze (x Nazeer) and Hoda (x Alaa El Din). We’ll continue the story of Bint Fathia and her daughter, Manal, in just a moment, but need to take a quick side trip with the mare, Hoda. She was only ever bred to Talal. Her first foal was Talya, dam of Talmaal (x Amaal), who sired Talmona who produced Ansata Mouna (x Farres), MB Moneena (dam of Ansata Qasim) and Yasamine (x Tammen). Talya also produced an exceptionally important filly by Ansata Shah Zaman, Talyla. Talyla, in turn, had a beautiful filly, Antigua Dance, by the unforgettable Ruminaja Bahjat. And Antigua Dance was bred to Makhsous to produce the exceptional breeding stallion, Marquis I, thus carrying the influence of Shams and her dam, Bint Samiha through both his sire, Makhsous, and his dam, Antigua Dance.

Now back to Bint Fathia (x Nazeer) and her daughter, Manal (x Yasir – full brother to Aswan and the mares, Sharzada & Bint Yosreia. Manal was bred to Alaa El Din and produced Ramses Amal, and Amal’s last foal was a filly named Anaza Dineekha (x Ibn El Mareekh [El Mareekh x Bint Deenaa]). She, in turn, was bred to Anaza Bay Shahh and produced the mare Shahneekha. Shahneeka was bred to Maydan-Madheen and produced the lovely and very important mare, Sharuby HP, dam of Shaheen Al Waab and his full brother Hilal Al Waab, both by Sinan Al Rayyan. All because of two fine people, Les & Lois St. Clair.
