Legacy: In Tribute to the Egyptian Arabian Horse - Ansata Bint Zaafarana

We took a break during the month of August from the typical “Fun Fact Friday” format we’ve been following all year so that we could get all thirteen volumes of the Reference Handbook of Straight Egyptian Arabian Horses released on digital format. It was a major undertaking but we feel confident that its impact will be long lasting and will be the means of even more people coming to know and understand the Straight Egyptian Arabian and its unique contribution in the greater Arabian horse community worldwide.

As we enter the month of September it’s a great time to take a look back, and to try to remember some of the great horses of our collective past. It was late 1959 when three yearlings arrived in the United States of America from Egypt. From left to right we see Ansata Ibn Halima, Ansata Bint Mabrouka and Ansata Bint Zaafarana.

This tribute, written by Judith Forbis, is as touching as it is insightful.

She was a great broodmare with many descendants who’ve bred forward in wonderful ways to the present day: Ansata El Nisr, Ansata Abu Nazeer, Ansata Aziza and others. Names we recognize in today’s pedigrees like Nisr’s Bint Kamal, Farid Nile Moon, Glorieta Sayonaara, Glorieta Zaarina, Aliashahm RA, Rhapsody in Black, Bellagio RCA, and many others descend through this great matriarch of the breed.

And it doesn’t stop there. Her older full sister, El Ameera, is the tail female ancestress of the lovely Belle Staar, of Chase Arabians, and her world famous daughter, The Vision HG, of Ariela Arabians.

And her full brother was the impressive stallion, Talal, owned for most of his life by Jim Kline. Check out this recent article by Jim Robbins for the We Love Arabian Horses Facebook Group.

Fittingly, the three yearlings imported from Egypt to the USA in 1959, are presented here as mature horses (photo by Jerry Sparagowski). Left to Right: Ansata Bint Zaafarana, Ansata Bint Mabrouka, Ansata Ibn Halima.
